The Elan Valley Reservoirs are a chain of man-made lakes created from damming the Elan and Claerwen rivers. The dams, reservoirs and 73 mile aqueduct of the Elan Valley were built a hundred years ago to supply desperately needed clean water to Birmingham. Today, the dams and reservoirs provide a lasting amenity in their own right for visitors to enjoy as well as safeguarding the natural habitats.

The Welsh Lavender Farm offers spectacular views across Mynydd Epynt, its open year round. Visitors are welcome to walk in the lavender fields. Farm notes are available for self-guided tours. The pond is a favourite farm feature, especially with wild swimmers. Tea, cakes and coffee are served all summer and out of season by arrangement. The peak time for lavender is midsummer.
